So Not Cool

Filed under: studio — mamae @ 10:33 am

It’s a quiet Sunday mornin here at the warehouse.

I am dyeing my MDSW / Cloverhill order. Just me and John Mayer (sigh).

I stopped by the sugary rings of death shop (Dunkin Donuts) to grab a muffin and some coffee on my way in. Punk rock, sk8ter boy was there. He is a 16 - or - so (man… the older I get the younger they look!) skater that I see around my neighborhood . He is likely in transit to work or Charm City Skate park.

The cowboy noticed him one day and chased him and his uber-cool posse down the street saying “shred it man!” Awesome. Very cool, no?

Well, I tell Tony Hawk this morning that my kid saw him and thinks he and his friends are really cool.

He said “Yeah. I saw him. I told my friends that I see you in the DD like EVERY DAY!

I said ” Not everyday. I have a studio in the building next door.”

He said “Well, every weekend then. You come here a lot.”

NOT COOL! I have been branded by generation Y as a donut eating mom that has a funny kid. I usually get COFFEE ,Mr. Hawk.

And as an FYI… those clothes your wearing… we wore them first when they WERE NOT in style.

That haircut… yeah… we shaved each others heads in the bathroom at school while we were smoking cigarettes (I quit people) and being WAY too cool to go to class.

Sk8 videos were grainy , nearly contraband, VHS tapes that your older brother watched (much to your protest) while you wanted to watch the Wizard of OZ!… Oh.. well that may not have been cool.

I am going to lick my wounds by listening to the Replacements and the Bouncing Souls now…

Damn.

LOL… getting older (not that YOU are, but I certainly am)sucks. Oy. I’m actually having to admit my dime-store reading glasses aren’t gonna cut it much longer and I’m actually gonna have to succumb to bifocals. That just sounds old - bifocals. You can bet I’m taking the girls with me to save me from buying some totally dorky old lady glasses. Yeah - I’ll wear them with my “mom pants” and people can call me “ma’am.” Save me from my aging self!

Just wait ’til they get old-er ;o)

Ha! That reminds of when I last went up to Penn State. My friend’s sister is going there and someone thought she was her mom! Do we really look old enough to have a 20 year old kid?! We wer ma’am’d at all the bars we went to and did’t even have to show ID. Doh!

I was really sorry to hear about the crash. Glad you are both ok and feeling better!

And I feel your pain with the “so not cool” thing. I spend everyday in front of puppy children and nothing makes you feel older than referencing a movie that you think they should know only to realize they were 3 years old when I came out. ouch.

Ugh - I am so old and so not cool anymore. I’m at the point where I really don’t care though! :) When people say they were born in 1980 something, I just cringe….

    I am just cracking up.
You are still cool to me.

That is the funniest post!!! : )
    We still ARE cool, Mama!
    We did it all FIRST!

    “You’re so Rad…” :)
The last time I saw Bouncing Souls the hub and I had a little circle of oldness around us - a small amount of empty space that I take it indicates we are no longer able to hang with the cool kids. hmprf, I think we’re in the same age bracket as the band!! Too funny!!
You DO have a funny kid - and you ARE still cool :)
