Reinventing the Wheel… is Good!

Filed under: C*EYE*BER Fibers, Sheep and Wool — mamae @ 11:26 am

Sometimes, I figure that reinventing the wheel, or my wheel, is good.

I have tried all manner of figurative shapes of wheels… the square ones got me no where fast. The oval were quite bumpy, but moved faster. One wheel got me moving. I think two will be much faster than one. But a set of 4 white walls ( white-wall tires, they say look at me, here I am, love me….)

Damn… we will be moving!
Why all this talk of shapes and numbers on a foggy.. umm.. Thursday ( right… it’s already Thursday!) morning?

I have some stuff that I am working on. Great, cool, fun, and innovative stuff! The kind of stuff that makes my creativity surge and my brain throb with possibility. (When it is all said and done, the brain is my sexiest part!)

I am starting to form some partnerships with some folks that will really, really allow my fiber fantasies to take flight. Yeah us for being the freaks of the art world! (Umm… what do you do? Dye yarn? huh. Have fun with your crafting… snickers the painter that just moved out of the suite next to mine..)

So yup…. the meetings are happening. The plans are forming. The logos are in development (you gotta have a cool graphic, no?) And the time line is in development. Hopefully *crossing fingers* the launch of the project will be my first open house.. that YOU are all invited to!

Mama-E’s Pre-Maryland Sheep and Wool Open House/Partay!

Where: My Studio!
When: May 2nd, 2008 4pm until ?

Let me know if you can attend! I will supply the wine (juice boxes too!), snacks, and have a good amount of fibery delights around to peruse!

I like kids, feel free to bring them when you are stopping by. The cowboy loves to make a new friend. (The later it gets… probably the less kids though!)

Come help us celebrate (hopefully!) the new project, all that is wonderful about MDSW, and each other!!!

C’mon May!!!!

Reclaiming a Song

Filed under: Dad — mamae @ 3:24 pm

(warning…sappy post ahead)

I have avoided a particular CD since my dad died. I just could not put in the CD player to listen to it.

I started cleaning house (physically and mentally) today and thought that today is the day I get to sing our song through my tears.

You see, my dad was a pure and simple great guy. There were also 8 long years of my childhood that I didn’t see him. I didn’t (and don’t) care to rehash why I didn’t see him… I just called him when I was 18 and told him I wanted to meet him in the West Village in NYC. 6 months later I was living at his home in Connecticut.

Years after, I met my D. We fell in love and set a wedding date of 9-16-01. Through all of the planning and negotiation between 3 families (I have 2 families and D has 1) and a national tragedy, I knew I would dance with my father and he would walk me down the isle.

I also knew that the song we danced to would then become ours and it had to be right. The song would be “Kind and Generous” by Natalie Merchant.

La la la la…
You’ve been so kind and generous
I don’t know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I’m in debt to you
For your selflessness my admiration
For everything you’ve done you know I’m bound
I’m bound to thank you for it
La la la la…
You’ve been so kind and generous
I don’t know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I’m in debt to you
And I never could have come this far without you
For everything you’ve done, you know I’m bound
I’m bound to thank you for it
La-la-la-la…
Oh, I want to thank you for so many gifts you gave
The love, the tenderness, I wanna thank you
I want to thank you for your generosity, the love
And the honesty that you gave me
I want to thank you show my gratitude
My love, and my respect for you, I want to thank you
Oh, I want to thank you, thank you; thank you, thank you
I want to thank you, thank you; thank you, thank you

So, here’s to our song. The one in which I get to remember the essence of who we are, father and daughter spinning on a dance floor and jumping a hurdle that once seemed to loom so large over us.

Thanks dad. I miss you every single day.

F*@K Retrograde… I have a theme song!

Filed under: contest — mamae @ 7:45 pm

So, I am going to salute this Mercury retrograde with my middle fingers.

Why? Because I have a theme song. I do. It’s true. My theme song is “SEXY BACK” by my friend JT. I kid you not.

So, in light of all that has gone wrong apparently with my life and yours… I thought that I would have a little contest.

The “F*@K RETROGRADE:WE HAVE A THEME SONG” contest.

Tell me why your theme song is what it is and some story about it.

Wanna know what 1 lucky winner wins? a 4 month subscription to the CRAZY 8’s club. NO JOKE. I need to pull the good karma train out of the station.

Here is an example of an entry” Sexy Back is Mama-E’s theme song because JT makes her crazy! It is my ring tone for my phone… and one day while visiting the cowboy’s pre-school class the phone rang, and rang, and a room full of 20 four year olds started getting their groove on while the phone hid in the bottom of my purse… the teachers tried to hide their laughter with little success.”

Now.. your turn. Songs and stories can be left in the comments. Winner will be drawn on Tuesday!

Did you know that MERCURY is in RETROGRADE?

Filed under: random — mamae @ 10:20 pm

What else can I say?

Is your life being fraught with unexpected  “gifts” from the universe? I was commenting to a friend (after my wallet was stolen and my son hit a 103 degree temp) that Mercury must be in retrograde.

I looked it up. It is. Bear with me for a week or so… all 3 of us are getting over the flu and trying to dig ourselves out of the “work that piled up while you were shivering on the couch” hole.

Mercury comes out of retrograde on the  19th. I think I will wear a hard hat until then.

A Break From the Usual

Filed under: politics — mamae @ 12:22 pm

I have conflicting feelings about posting about the too personal on my blog. Even though this blog started here in 2004, a full 2 years before I was C*EYE*BER Fiber Yarns, I struggle with the business/personal relationship to my blog.

I feel, though, that my convictions are strong on this matter. If you do not care to hear about the upcoming presidential elections… just skip this post and come back later. I won’t mind.

I publicly support Barak Obama for president. His message is clear, concise, and strikes me at my gut. There is a lot of work to be done here, in our country. From healthcare to the environment to our rising national debt to education for all children… we have a ton of work to do. I believe that this is the person who will set us on the road to righting ourselves as one nation.

It is slightly sad for me that Hillary did not gain my confidence. I was keeping tabs on her camp for so long…and hoping that she would stay the course. I was ALL FOR the first Clinton… but I fear Hillary can not bring about the change needed.

There is a very eloquent post written here, By Carol. I was so inspired by her candor that I chose to do something. You all will be finding out about that something very, very soon!

I was also inspired by this.  If you are also inspired and want to learn more about grassroots fund raising for Obama…. check this out.

I want to end this post by saying how proud I am of the Democratic party…. our nominee will either be a woman or an African-American. How far we have come, friends. Finally, we are coming to a point in the party where we see it is the best person for the job.

I am shivering with the possibilities and humbled to be a part of the process.
