And then … It hit me…

Filed under: Dad, Sappy Ramblings — mamae @ 10:47 pm

My youngest brother, Bill, is graduating from high school. He recently turned 18.. and now is a man.

And as he graduates, I think of the rapid passage of time. I can sometimes sneak a peek of the wide-eyed 7 year old that wrote the essay on how I was is favorite person. And the kid who only knows how to draw a baseball diamond and players. I see my brother in my son’s face. They share the same giggle. They have the same need to run and play.
We, Bill and I, would sing and dance around our little house in Danbury to the song “These Are Days” by 10,000 Maniacs. I was 19 and full of angst. He was 3 and full of wonder.
“These are the days
These are days you’ll remember
Never before and never since, I promise
Will the whole world be warm as this
And as you feel it,
You’ll know it’s true
That you are blessed and lucky
It’s true that you
Are touched by something
That will grow and bloom in you

These are days that you’ll remember
When May is rushing over you
With desire to be part of the miracles
You see in every hour
You’ll know it’s true
That you are blessed and lucky
It’s true that you are touched
By something that will grow and bloom in you

These are days
These are the days you might fill
With laughter until you break
These days you might feel
A shaft of light
Make its way across your face
And when you do
Then you’ll know how it was meant to be
See the signs and know their meaning
It’s true
Then you’ll know how it was meant to be
Hear the signs and know they’re speaking
To you, to you”

The tears run down my face as I think of how proud I am of the kind of man he grew up to be. (And how scary that Natalie Merchant is tied up in some of my sweetest memories)

And I think of how proud my father would be of him. And just how very much I still miss my dad. And how much my brother must miss him too. And my mom… and my sister…

I figured out that there will always we this huge black hole where my dad is concerned. And that I can not run from it… I just try to honor it. And know that we all feel bittersweet… and will forever.

I am so lucky to have you, Bill. You are everything that a sister could hope for. I promise, when you are some big-time politician, I will not be your Roger Clinton. I also promise that I will always be in your corner. Forever.
And, Dad, I will hug him extra tight for you.

Why I Love Jodi Green and Jaywalkers

Filed under: thank yous — mamae @ 2:58 pm

Not too long ago, Jodi Green put some stuff up on her etsy site (feel free to check it out and buy stuff… I will be here waiting when you get back)
Specifically, this:

jodit.jpg

I bought it right away.

And this:

0004.JPG

Snatched that up too! A recycled paper small notebook. The attention to detail in the craftsmanship is amazing.
But when they came they came with these:

0009.JPG

recycled-paper buttons for me and the cowboy. I love the dumbbell one! That was a sweet surprise.

But the topping on the cake are these:

2 (yes two!) original prints from Jodi signed and numbered. I am blown away.

See… you may know her for this, or this, or some of her other published knit designs… but she is an incredible artist. Incredibly working her way to her MFA degree. Go sister… you are at the finish line!
I am so grateful, friend. It means so much to me to have your work.

Now.. I have been knitting!

I turned this:

into this:

0001_2.JPG

Little toe-up jay jay action in the Sweet Baby Jane colorway from my last update. The yarn is superwash merino/bamboo/nylon and is part of my new Coordinates line (matching heel toe yarn) The colorway is similar to English Roses… with less green variation.

I love them. The Jaywalker pattern is an old friend. I love the ease at which they knit.

Now, peanut gallery, is that enough pictures for you?

Tag! I’m It.

Filed under: Uncategorized — mamae @ 1:04 pm

7 random facts Meme has been kindly handed to me by Jody.

Here are the rules:
Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those who are tagged need to write on their own blog those 7 facts as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and to read your blog.

  • I love Lyle Lovett. I mean.. stop in my tracks and sigh when I hear him sing. There is something about a man who sings…. (sigh) Julia definitely lost out in that one!
  • I was a competitive cheerleader until the 9th grade. Yes… the kind that throws people 6 stories into the air and catches them. I was always at the bottom though ( :) )
  • I have a severe phobia of snakes. Like cry-when-I-see-them-intense-fear. (Rodents and wildlife kind of freak me out if they are too close.)
  • People say I look like Rosie O’Donnell. Just sayin’.
  • I have a BIG birthmark. Not tellin’ where! And I have 5 tattoos.
  • My father was involved with professional football and was the public announcer (play by play) guy for the NJ Nets in the 80’s. I have been made a fuss of by the likes of Bernard King and Mike Newland. I also met Magic Johnson and was babysat courtside in the best seats in the house! I have seen many a backboard smashed by Darrell Dawkins.
  • I have lived in 5 states. NJ,  NY (state and city),CT, MD, and New Mexico. I have done some movnig and shakin in my 30-odd years on this planet.

Ok… I am not sure who to tag because I have gotten tagged a little late in the game.

Patricia and Nicki… your it!

Ch-ch-ch- CHAANGES! Time to…

Filed under: Uncategorized — mamae @ 10:48 am

face the change. But change is good right?

I have been a little quiet on the blogging since returning from the cruise. I had a lot of information to process last week and really had no time to do so. I am processing… slowly… and thinking about change and possibility.

Now, the chosen profession that I have had for the last 10 years is one where we really try to create a constant and a routine for children with special needs. Now that being said, the folks that are creating that consistency get into a rut about that themselves. Meaning, slowly… year by year… change freaks them out a little more. Maybe the natural progression of time an aging are a factor? Increased responsibility and children don’t make for “spontaneity as a lifestyle” type decisions.

After my information digestion and many talks with my village (thank-you-very-much for the endless conversations!) I am so, so, SO positive about the direction that I am moving in.

After all, this my changes are good. Really, I guess, all change is good.

Now, if you know me personally, you know that my greatest strength (other than my sparkling personality) is I can think on my feet. Like while (virtually) running. I am great at catching all the balls that are thrown up in the air, even if I do not throw them. I am a fixer to the nth degree. I knew that there were changes ahead, and sometimes scary ones, but that tingling of possibility was really sparking my creativity in ways that it had not been sparked before. I also knew that I would need help. Lots of it.
I called on the “Friends of Mama-E” anonymous club ( I swear you have to be in a support group to be my friend!) and all of their love and support is really the reason why I can do this. (My husband D must be the “Grand Poobah” of the club because of the 10 years we have been at each other’s side. There is no one in this universe that supports me like he does.)My supporters’ talents have been matched into one machine that blows my mind with the final vision that we have.

So what does this cryptic rambling mean?

It means you will be seeing more yarn and fiber. I am jumping more into my passion as a fiber artist and committing to progressing in my craft. C*EYE*BER Fiber Yarns is getting an overhaul at the moment. And friends, she is lookin’ FINE!There will be more consistent updates of the Warehouse. The first one scheduled for next Thursday May 24th. Sign up for my mailing list here if you want first dibs. I am available to develop new lines! One of which will launch next week at the update!

I will be selling my products alone. I have no intention to open another online yarn shop. There are many out there that are meeting your needs, flooding the market with another choice of vendor doesn’t help anyone out. At the end of the day I am an artist. I just want to make my stuff and teach.

I am available to teach! That is where I get a lot of my creativity. I love teaching dyeing and color theory. The personal interaction I get with the folks who take my classes really feed my soul. I love when the light bulb goes on and they get it. That is a priceless moment and gift for a teacher.

I will travel in the DC/Baltimore/Virginia/Delaware/PA/NJ region pretty easily to do so. Let me know if you have guild or a shop that is interested in a guest teacher or a workshop.

I am able to accept more wholesale clients of the LYS variety. I currently am looking for more wholesale opportunities for “brick and mortar” yarn shops. I love that C*EYE*BER Fibers can become a sensory experience for folks walking into their LYS. I am trying to balance my offerings online through the select internet vendors I work with and provide the “brick and mortar” shops a chance to stay around for the long haul.

So, in the face of great change I am breathing. And calling on my fellow villagers to help. And realizing that change is good by choice or by force. It (as Mouse put it) gets us out of our comfortable chairs.

I am putting on my (virtual) running shoes … and it’s time to hit the ground at a very fast pace!

A very heartfelt thank you to you all. You have allowed this flicker of a passion of mine to combust into flame. I really and truly appreciate each and every one of you.

Namaste’.
