The Desert is a Beautiful and Desolate Place…

Filed under: vacations — mamae @ 1:25 pm

We left the Phoenix-metro area to ride our way to LA. The desert is a very lonely and beautiful ride. Nothing for miles and miles (except the vermin and critters and reptiles I tried very hard to avoid).

We stopped here for gas (4.19/gallon!) I could not decide if it was more like Radiator Springs or Deliverance (the desert version).

Here are some sights from the road:

Lolly: this is where your electricity comes from! I totally thought of you!

On the boat today… I will probably post again in Seattle!Ciao friends!

When in Tempe….

Wear a SUNS shirt and a DBacks hat!

The game was great. We saw this guy:

Get boo-ed EVERY time he got to the plate. Intentionally walked a bunch of times and hit a single once. The DBACKS won… all were happy.

It was so nice to spend some time with my big bro- G Tiddy. The cowboy loves him so much and I think there is a lot of mutual mischief affection between the boys.

Now… really off to LA tomorrow (By way if the big dinosaur rest stop and the Joshua tree forest).

Spinning webs and lifeguarding! Off to LA Tomorrow!

Greetings From Tempe!

Filed under: vacations — mamae @ 7:24 pm

And now we are based in Tempe, AZ.

The home of ASU… right at the base of South Mountain. The weather is deliciously hot and dry. It guess we are at 90 degrees and sun, sun, SUN!

The cowboy swam today. There is a small whirlpool outside that has my name on it. I have internet. I saw my brother. I am fine, fine, fine!

We are having some nice family time, despite the fact the three of us have a shitty cold. I am hoping to bake the cold right out of me.

And the “BACATION” report is … it took the cowboy 1.5 seconds from the time he saw a “claw game” at the resturant we ate breakfast to say that he was eligable to play. He screamed “I AM ON BACATION!!! I CAN PLAY THE GAME!!! MOMMYI NEED MONEY”.

We played with no reward. But, he was psyched to play.

Tomorrow we will be off to the “Rawhide” Western Town for some cheesy cowboy sightings and stagecoach rolling and a DBacks game with uncle G-Tiddy at night.

I am loving this bacation!

Greetings From Scottsdale!

Filed under: vacations — mamae @ 11:30 am

It is about 75 degrees at 8:30 am in beautiful Scottsdale Arizona!

The flight was long, but bearable. The cowboy was TERRIFIC! Even his seatmate, Ms. Cheryl-the -nice-lady-that-put-up-with-the-constant-questions-and-touching-, said so.

Off to do something in the desert today. The boy wants to swim… and swim we shall.

More later!

Long Sleep and Long Sleeves

Filed under: vacations — mamae @ 7:36 am

I packed it in about 10 pm last night. Crawled into bed with my red stained arms (they are quite impressive) and fell fast asleep. The asleep that says I am slowing down and getting ready for vacation.

That is one of the most blessed words in the English vocabulary. Vacation.

We are using it a lot around here. And, as smart as my boy is, he has picked up that we are going on the all and ever present state of VACATION. Vacation = nirvana for small boys.
I have been telling him since birth that everything I do not want to a)cave in and buy, b)waste my money on (25 cent rides at the grocery store, balloons at the mall, etc) are for kids on vacation.

Well… I am praying that he does not think the airport is the gateway to balioon and ride heaven. Yesterday he told me that we were going on “Bacation” and he wanted a “ba-woon”. Oh boy. I sure am glad it is a BIG ship.

I am excited to see my brother. It is always nice to visit him in the desert. I have been to Arizona 2 times and like it more each time. dry desert air will be a nice contrast to the chill in the air here. The drive to LA should be fun. I hear that there are big dinosaurs to see, the Joshua Tree national forest, and windmills in the desert. Good for the boy to check out other geography.
Today, I wear my Flair and some long sleeves under for warmth and coverage. Pictures soon, I promise. I bought a new camera and have not had time to fool with it. My red arms would look oh-so-loverly under the pink flair!

great day friends!!

The Worst Possible Color to Spill is …

Filed under: C*EYE*BER Fibers, Uncategorized — mamae @ 9:55 pm

Red. Yes… red dye all over your dye spot looks like a massacre. It was disgusting.

I just finished seeing “Fast Food Nation”. Yuck. I had flashbacks to the end of the movie.

My arms are splattered. I hope I do not get stopped by a cop on the way home. May draw some attention in Baltimore City I tell you.

Thank god I have a studio. Not messing up my kitchen counter.

This week is blurring together. Between my day job and my dye job I am running around crazy. Good thing I am headed for a little R an R out west. Phoenix to see my big bro and SIL. Drive to LA, meet Patricia and 80 of my newest knitter friends. Get on the ship and Seasocks ‘07 is off.

And…. oh do we have news. BIG, BIIIG News. But… alas… I am sworn to secrecy. Damn I hate that.

But, I promise you will be the first to know, ok?

Ok… better head home now. My hub and my kid may not remember what I look like.

Better, more cohesive post tomorrow…

Gotta Love the GIMP!

Filed under: Uncategorized — mamae @ 9:39 pm

Gimp is an open source software much like photoshop… only free. It works in PC’s and lets you do silly things to photos.

Now… I want to know how to do more… but right now…. as my head is about to explode and my stomach is churning from caffeine and sugar… I am happy with a FREE program.

I did silly things like:

and this:

I know… simple for most. A triumph for me.

I spent the day in my studio (annoying my suite-mate -separate spaces with a transom like divider- with the Dixie Chicks and Bruuuuuce. Her damn pan flute new age stuff was grating in my nerves!) I did spend the day in the dyepot. The TK subscirptions for month two and the PS yarn for month two is finished. Whew!

Michelle, from the Sweet Sheep, is getting a LOAD of stuff shipped on Tuesday. Curriculum for the cruise is being finalized. Now… if I only had a self-cleaning house….
