C*EYE*BER Fiber project bags……. 5 up now. More to come!

I have had so much going on that I feel that I am spinning. (Wish I was spinning yarn)

So boys and girls… sit back. Get comfortable. Here is my weekend in pictures.

I went to see RENT in NYC. I took the train from NJ to Penn Station.

train.jpg

That is my one and only piece of Christmas knitting…. it does not look good!

The mitts are FETCHING. (ha ha). I made them from my handspun in the FLORA colorway. I love them.

subway.jpg

This is my favorite thing about the NYC subway.

gct.jpg

Grand Central Terminal is my favorite building in NYC. I should have taken interior pics.

Bird and I did some shopping at the outdoor market in Bryant Park. We got some sweet jewelry that matched!

Back in NJ…. the next day….

There is the cowboy and his (hottie!) Uncle at the bowling alley. My little bro is so handsome.

Sorry girls! He is taken. This is his girlfriend G and the cowboy. The cowboy has a HUGE crush on her!

Back in Baltimore…. Tuesday 12/12/06

Remember the ceiling in my studio? That crappy plastic?

reno.jpg

I did something about that!

Look at that! I sealed them with some acrylic polyurethane. Seal the dust… I love them.

Walls next!

This is a quick post from the road. The cowboy and I are in NJ winding up to make the journey back to Charm City at 6 am tomorrow.

I ventured into the city yesterday to see my first ever Broadway musical with my (not-so) baby sister Bird. Yes friends… I am blown away by the Broadway production of RENT. I am inspired and in awe of the story, the music, and the performers.

I pretty much cried through the whole thing (sorry to the person sitting next to me). I was so touched by the whole thing. I got my first big - girl day with my bird. A day to share in things as sisters… not as an adult and child. She is beautiful.. and I am so proud she is my sister.

Back to the studio renovation tomorrow. And the lesson planning. And the material gathering. And teh wall painting… There are 2 spots left for the class on the 21st of January…. any takers?????

I will have a more coherent post tomorrow… Nite from the Garden State.

(aren’t you very glad that I have not yet added the widget to put sound and video into the site?)

My mind reels as of late…. that really awesome reeling. That dreaming of how the Warehouse should be arranged. The dreaming of my plan for the most amazing work tables ever. I dream during the day.. in my sleep… when I am driving ( ummm…. thank God no accidents to report).

I stopped by the studio this morning…I saw my sink. I about cried. Each new piece of something that falls into place is a complete joy.

So many pieces of things are falling right now. They happen to be good things… REALLY GOOD THINGS… that I am happy to FINALLY (*breathe… breathe….* ) share with you!!

I am so very pleased to announce the Fall Fiber Frenzy Cruise. And along with the crew from the Sea Socks Cruise (Patricia, Amie, and I) we have added some amazing new friends!

The first that I am frothing at the mouth excited to announce is Kate Gilbert!

That is right! She will be teaching on board with us. There is even the opportunity to get a small group session with her for an added fee! Meaning… you sign up now and you will be eligible to purchase an additional workshop with Kate. This is a rare opportunity to get extremely hands-on experience with an established knit designer.

Now…. this is a SPINNING and Knitting cruise. We have Amie… the amazing spinner lined up to teach… we are confirming another of my lovely fiber friends to teach with her….. we are open to handspindling. wheels.. whatever! I will be providing fiber and general merriment….Patricia will be our cruise director… I may double as bartender…

So… never you mind if you do not want to spin (I can not imagine that!) you can knit. The cruise is designed for both knitting an spinning equally!

Guess you may want to know where we are going?
Leaving from my hometown of Baltimore hon! 9 days of cruising from Baltimore to Nova Scotia and back. St. John’s and Halifax…. ummmmm… handmaiden…

Where was I?

Oh yes! Cruising…. get in touch with Patricia….and book your cabin today…..

What else?

The other cool thing is this! Thank you Knitty! Thank you Bev! Awesome…. I am so psyched to be included among this fine lot of talented folks!!!
My first ever dye class on the 20th of January has filled up. Wow! You guys are fast! I have a second class scheduled for the 21st (by popular demand!) Email me if you want the skinny.

Marie and I have 1 spot left in the Winter Sock Club. C’mon… you know you want it!!

If it is your first time here… welcome! I have items for sale here. Also… go show some love those who support my efforts as an artist.

Michelle has exclusive and limited edition C*EYE*BER FIBER Sock, Roving, and my way cool little knitting ornaments. Michelle has partnered with me on numerous occasions and you may have seen us together at Rhinebeck in fiber shock. She carries an amazing selection of stuff in her store. She also is the source of all good smelling wool washes!

Connie has exclusive C*EYE*BER Fiber Sock colorways.

Chrissy has written patterns to go along with 2 of my colorways! She is offering exclusive sock kits. She is also a kick-ass designer that is really pushing herself to go for her dream.
All of these vendors have different colorways. Check them all out!!!

If you live in the MD/DC/PA region you can go to these shops and tell them Mama-E sent ya!

This is my LYS and I love them!! Chris carries Cloverhill Signature (that I dye for them) and C*EYE*BER Fiber Roving. They also have an AMAZINGLY talented and helpful staff. They offer a wide array of classes with really knowledgeable teachers. Kellie Nuss, Amie Glasgow, Christine Gahs, Bonita Perry, Gail Schley, and now Eunny Jang. They have classes in spinning and knitting. A more talented or entertaining group of women you will not find.

Kristine and Holly carry C*EYE*BER Fiber Sock. They have lots of classes and sometimes (ahem!) a happy hour or two? Michael DelVecchio, author of Knitting With Balls, is among their fine teaching staff. Located in Old Town Alexandria, this shop is not to miss. I love hanging out with their staff (Holly… you know I love you baybee.) And I love the service they provide. They really know their knits… and Holly is a virtual fount of knowledge when it comes to yardages, gauges, conversions…. she is special like that.
It is so amazingly important for me to try to keep the balance of the internet yarn market vs. the LYS. They both have a place in my world. (and before I get a lot of heat for that statement) THEY BOTH ARE EQUALLY IMPORTANT TO ME. I FULLY DISCLOSE THAT I BUY AND SELL YARNS ONLINE REGULARLY. I also buy a lot from the LYS. Hell… I just buy a lot of yarn. Period. I try to get my fiber-stuffs in as many brick and mortar LYS as possible. With out them there would be no exchange of ideas… petting the fiber… (Ok.. in my case sniffing it!) and new friendships and guilds to be formed.

I am fully committed to keeping the LYS alive. I am not taking any more internet wholesale accounts. I am, however, open to putting my wares in more brick and mortars. Email me if you would like to wholesale C*EYE*BER Fibers.
Thanks friends. Your continual love and support for this “little fiber” idea of mine blows me away. Please send some good Karma my way that the little pieces of wonder that keep falling get in the right place, ok?

So tonight… after what seems to be our weekly outing to get Indian Food… I took the cowboy to see this:

u2.jpg

No… it is not the Griswold house… It is 34th st in Hampden. The entire block is lit with an amazing array of lights, figurines, and musical displays.

We were playing the CARS MOVIE soundtrack…. the song SH-Boom by the Chords was playing…. and the cowboy and I were reenacting the cruisin’ scene from the movie. You know.. the one where they light the neon and all the cars “dance” down the street. The cowboy loves that song…. he loves the lights…. he was so sweet “dancing” in his booster seat.

(And I thought… for a really brief moment…. that I saw you in the lights. I heard your voice… I heard your song… )

My father loved Christmas. He loved being Clark W. Griswold. He loved his huge colored lights. He loved the fire in the fireplace. He loved packing so many bodies into our tiny home for that holiday.

There was food, music, spirits… and there was love. The kind of family love that is real, and flawed, and boundless, and amazing to be a part of.

(And it hit me then… while I was telling the cowboy that you loved the lights, and that song… and that doo-wop was your favorite. And that we called you the “Big Bopper”…. That I miss you more now than ever. Your cowboy would be up in the middle of all of that. He would be read “The Night Before Christmas” on your lap… you may even bust out the Old Santa suit and make an appearance as you did for me when I was really little…. )

This time of year can be hard. I miss my dad everyday…. but ever so much more when I hear him or see a glimpse of him in some Christmas lights. I do love sharing him with my boy. Keeping Grandpa Tiger around for my son is my responsibility as a parent and to my dad.

It was a very sweet moment shared with my boy…. and with my dad.

I made a few of these to go in Michelle’s shop…. go get them!!! Also… she has new yarn and roving…..

I have always dreamed of being a working artist, surrounded by other artists, getting better at my craft by being in the midst of good company.

HPIM1055.JPG

I have a loving husband who supprts me in more ways than I can ever describe or could ever imagine. Someone who lets me take the house over and cover it in yarn. Someone who keeps his mind open to new ideas…. and has a few GREAT ones of his own.

HPIM1056.JPG

Now I mentioned that I may have some secrets…

HPIM1057.JPG

Welcome to the future home of C*EYE*BER FIBER Yarns. I have a studio! Not only a space to dye… she will be the space where I teach! Yes friends… meet the WAREHOUSE! Expect to see her ready for classes Jan 1, 2007.

Email me if you live in the Baltimore/DC area and want to take a dyeing/fiber arts class. The classes are VERY limited in size to create an intensive hands on experience.

Stay tuned for more REALLY good things to come! I still have a few secrets that can not be disclosed yet!
