project that is!

In all of his 3.5 yars I have never made him socks. Bad mommy!
I used Plymouth Encore (very washable, very durable for boy feet wear). Maybe I will make D a matching pair..
Have a great rest of your weekend!

Fri 10 Nov 2006
It is another Friday. My mind is cluttered with possibility. I have many things to do for work, for yarn work, for a clean house, etc. But, I love the feeling of possibility I get on Fridays.
The weekend is here. Finally, a weekend that appears free of travel and ailments. The cowboy has plans with Daddy tomorrow morning. I have plans with a mop and a broom. But that is not today.
I am so excited about some plans that are in the works. It would be really premature to announce them. But partnerships are forming. And, as Martha says, “It’s a good thing.”
I want to give big props to my girl, Julia, for her spot in Deb Stoller’s 2008 calendar. Go on sister! I am so happy for you!
The possibilities are so endless when you team up with other crafts(wo)men. I love collaborating with other artists. I feel like we push each other to get better at the craft, get better at thinking outside the box, bring more creative an innovative ideas to the table. Awesome. I am in awe of some of the folks that I am working with and making contact with.
I never thought that my yarn obsession craft would take me here. I am amazed….. and truly very grateful.
So.. another Friday has come. Along with Fridays come the weekend update:
Have a great weekend!

I have been crazy busy lately. Work, Family, and this little thing called “C*EYE*BER Fiber Yarns” has kept me running in circles. I have screwed up some shipping, finally fixed it all, and am taking a 1 night breather from the yarn business.
I stopped by the Post Office today to check the ol’ C*EYE*BER Fiber box and found a package. I took it to my car and ripped it open.

Heide sent me jaywalkers made from June-Bug! She actually took the time to MAKE me socks. She sent me a PIF with my own yarn.
I am touched beyond belief and have been in the greatest mood all day! Thanks Heide, they fit my size 11 feet perfectly! I love, love, LOVE them!

Stitches Recap:
We entered the Stitches Market promptly at 10am. The market was flooded with anticipation. Everyone had their list in hand (well… I had 1 thing to buy…)

Right about now is when the lady on the loudspeaker started announcing no pictures. I still think that is dumb…. and it should be left up to the vendor/designer.

And here is me not giving a shit about the lady on the loud speaker’s announcement. Laura is proudly buying C*EYE*BER Fiber Roving from Cloverhill. I needed to document the moment where my “girls” were first displayed at a major show/festival market.

The experience was almost solely a shopping trip. Which, was a little sad. I saw folks and hung out with the girls… but the fiber festivals feel more about community and connection than a retail experience. Don’t get me wrong. I walked straight up to a wall of STR and bought my pick with NO LINE and NO WAIT… but.. I made friends and connections on the FOLD line at Rhinebeck. We were all giddy with possibility.
I think the festivals bring the excitement and anticipation of the unknown. I rarely can buy the exact fibers/yarns from my list at a festival. I always find new and exciting fiber that is a local gem to fondle and pet. I want the surprise. I want the awesome find that you tell the girls about.
The camera thing really made me think that the folks there have no idea about the power of blogging and the way that a few photos can make a product’s popularity skyrocket.(ummm STR?) I mean, my little yarn project would have never gotten off the ground without all of you(and I really am grateful to you all!).
It would be extremely hard to capture a photo of a garment and copy the design. Whatever. It was another indicator that the market was designed for a different demographic of knitter.
All in all… I dropped some cash and bought some nice things. And renewed my IK subscription (thankyouverymuch!)
Here are the spoils:
2 skeins of Socks that Rock. Now… I took a little heat when I justified my STR purchases at Rhinebeck as “market research”. That was really just a cover for the fact that I have a very hard time buying a lot of sock yarn because of the cones and hanks all around my tiny house that trip and fall off shelves and are constantly in some place where they annoy my family. I wanted them because they are lovely. Enough said.

Ummm.. have I mentioned that I am a “HO for Handmaiden?”
The skein on the left is seasilk and the one on the right is pure silk. I love them.

One more skein of Brooks Farm ACERO to make a scarf to match my odessa. That is the only yarn I had on my list.

Check out the yardage. 17.00 for silk/superwash wool/ viscose. Nice.

After I left the market, the family and I headed up to NJ to spend some time with my family. This is Baby Bro #1… isn’t he so handsome?

Here he is teaching the cowboy how to play guitar. I think that this will be one of my favorite pictures for a long, long time.

Wanna see something new??

C*EYE*BER Fiber Silk.. mmmmmm.. yummy! What do you all think? It is 100% Tussah silk.
The Twisted Sisters Club has filled up so quickly. I can open up 3 more spots… email me if you are interested. Payment for the club secures your spot!
Thanks friends…. I am off to finish a dye session!

And I am better off because I put a sizeable dent in my wallet at the Stitches East Market yesterday.
The morning started off by picking up blogless CAm and Stacy… Me driving through the city of Baltimore. With two knitters that have cash to spend. We were on a mission!
We met up with the Columbia kniters. Lolly, Coleen, Jolene, Laura, Jen, Diane, and Midge. BIG group to navagate with. Some were methodical in their fibery pursuits… Some…. meaning ME, could not handle the stimulation and darted around like a pinball navagated by the wizard himself.
I saw this guy, who is an amazingly funny and lovely man. He gave ma a great pin that says “I knit with Balls!” . I love it. He will be signing his book at Springwater Fiber Workshop in Alexandria, VA on November 15th. I think I will stop by and get mine signed.
My impression of Stitches….. hmmmm…. it was not like MD Sheep and Wool or Rhinebeck… it was a very different atmosphere and demographic of knitter. It was all about buying product…. it was not about the social aspect of the craft. They even made announcements that there was to be no photography in the market of any kind. The bloggers were stunned. WE HAVE TO TAKE PICTURES…. right? Well, hmmmmmm, I broke the rules and will put it the few pics that I took tomorrow. (along with haul pics)
I am in NJ… visiting the Mammy and the Grump- Grump with Nana, and D, and the cowboy. Big merry family stuff. D and his mom, Nana, are going into NYC to see a show today and I am off to knit with my mom and the cowboy.
Back in Charm City tomorrow!

I stopped at my LYS, Cloverhill, to drop off more fiber for the shop (which is OPEN all weekend…even though they have a booth at the convention).
I was met by my buddy, Ms. B…. who revealed that she lurks around my site ( Hi Ms. B! Very nice to see you are back)… she wanted to know if I felt better…. told me the cowboy made a cute “Bob the Builder”, offered excellent counsel about hemp yarn, and all around nice conversation.
Ms. G and I conversed about the sock yarns and she showed me a sock in progress with the colorway that I named for her.
Ms. S offered me warm pumpkin bread, (my favorite) and some comic relief.
I love, love, love my LYS. If you happen to be in my neck of the woods this year for Stitches…. go see them at the convention center or the shop (75 Mellor Ave, Catonsville MD 21228).
You never know…. you may get some great yarn/fiber and a slice of pumpkin bread!
